Very responsive, reasonable, and reliable. Shaun came out the same day I called. Took care of treating European hornets in the eave of our house. Shaun stopped back by the next day to check on activity and treated again. Problem solved! We will be calling Shaun for any needs in the future.
Sean was efficient, effective and warm but professional. He’s now on my speed dial as this was the second hornet nest he removed for us.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pest Control in Virginia

What pests are most common in Virginia?

Virginia’s climate creates favorable conditions for a wide variety of pests. Common problems include ants, termites, cockroaches, mosquitoes, ticks, spiders, stink bugs, mice, rats, wasps, fleas, and occasional invaders that move indoors during seasonal temperature changes. Pest activity can vary depending on whether your property is located near wooded areas, water, farmland, or densely populated neighborhoods.

Why are termites such a concern for Virginia homeowners?

Termites can be especially destructive because they often remain hidden while feeding on wood and other cellulose materials. Virginia’s warm, humid conditions can support subterranean termite activity for much of the year. Regular termite inspections can help identify signs of activity early and reduce the risk of extensive structural damage.

How can I tell if I have a pest infestation?

Common warning signs include droppings, gnaw marks, scratching sounds, insect wings, damaged wood, unusual odors, nests, grease marks along walls, or an increase in insects inside the home. Some infestations are easy to spot, while others can remain hidden in attics, basements, crawl spaces, wall voids, and other concealed areas.

Is year-round pest control necessary in Virginia?

Year-round service can be beneficial because different pests become active during different seasons. Spring and summer often bring ants, mosquitoes, termites, ticks, and stinging insects, while cooler temperatures can drive rodents and other pests indoors. Routine pest control can help address seasonal changes before they turn into larger infestations.

What attracts pests to homes in Virginia?

Food, water, shelter, and easy entry points are the biggest attractants. Leaking pipes, standing water, clogged gutters, unsealed cracks, pet food, firewood, overgrown vegetation, and poorly stored trash can all increase pest activity. Reducing these conditions can make your property less inviting to insects and rodents.

Can professional pest control help prevent future infestations?

Yes. Effective pest management is not limited to treating pests that are already present. Preventative pest control may include exterior treatments, inspection of entry points, habitat reduction, monitoring, and recommendations for sealing or sanitation. The goal is to reduce the conditions that allow pests to enter and thrive.

How often should pest control treatments be performed?

The ideal frequency depends on the type of pest, the size and condition of the property, surrounding environmental factors, and whether there is an active infestation. Some properties may only need periodic service, while others benefit from quarterly or ongoing pest management throughout the year.

What can be done about mosquitoes and ticks around my property?

Mosquito and tick control often focuses on areas where these pests rest, breed, or travel. This may include shaded landscaping, shrubs, tall grass, standing water, leaf litter, and wooded edges. Keeping vegetation trimmed and removing water-holding containers can also help reduce pest pressure around outdoor living areas.

How do pest control professionals handle rodent problems?

Rodent control usually begins with a detailed inspection to identify activity, nesting areas, and possible entry points. Depending on the situation, a treatment plan may include trapping, baiting, exclusion recommendations, and follow-up monitoring. Sealing gaps and reducing food sources are important parts of preventing mice and rats from returning.

Is pest control available for Virginia businesses?

Yes. Commercial pest control services are commonly available for offices, restaurants, retail stores, apartment communities, warehouses, healthcare facilities, schools, and other commercial properties. Because businesses often have different sanitation, compliance, and operational needs, commercial pest management plans are typically customized.

Are pest control treatments safe around children and pets?

Professional pest control products should be applied according to their labels and applicable safety requirements. Your technician can explain any preparation or re-entry instructions before treatment. Homeowners should always mention children, pets, sensitivities, or other concerns so the treatment plan can be discussed before service begins.

When should I call a professional pest control company?

You should consider professional pest control when you notice recurring pests, signs of termites or rodents, large numbers of insects, unexplained property damage, or an infestation that continues despite do-it-yourself efforts. Early treatment can often make pest problems easier to manage and help prevent additional damage.
